Stago Webinar 27 April 2023

Thrombophilia
testing in 2023:

Venous thromboembolic (VTE) disease is a continuing global health burden with serious mortality, morbidity, and health economic consequences. Approximately 1 to 2 of every 1000 adults in the worldwide population will be diagnosed with VTE annually. Thrombophilia describes inherited and acquired prothrombotic states which predispose to venous, but not arterial thromboembolism. Thrombophilia testing must be used judiciously and the clinical laboratory plays a crucial role in preventing irrelevant testing and in contextual interpretation of test results. During this webinar, clinicians, clinical pathologists, PhDs, and clinical laboratory staff will have the opportunity to update their knowledge on the role of the clinical laboratory in the diagnosis of thrombophilia risk factors, from prenanalytical and analytical to postanalytical considerations and pittfalls. Clinical cases will be used to illustrate the diagnosis chart and a special focus will be made on the latest ISTH / SSC plasma coagulation inhibitors subcommittee communication on activated protein C resistance testing released in January 2023.
